Equipment - Telescopes

MEADE 2045D
My new grab-and-go 'scope (Jan-2012). A complete telescope and mount that fit in a small case. It's a 4" f10 schmidt cassegrain circa 1991-95. I hear the the optics of 2045's are hit and miss, but that the 2045D model is a pretty safe bet for good optics. I always liked the design and decided to see for myself. This cost me about $300 on ebay, which is a little expensive, but the telescope is essentially in like-new condition.

CUSTOM 10" F4
Hand built, carbon fiber tubed Newtonian telescope. Bob Royce Primary and Protostar Secondary mirrors. The light weight craddle for it is built from epoxy coated plywood with metal bands to hug the tube. It's maximum resolving power is 0.46". The mount is a Losmandy G11.

Notes pertaining to the construction of the carbon fiber tube are here.

CUSTOM 4-1/4" F4
Hand built, carbon fiber tubed Newtonian telescope. Edmund Scientific Primary and Secondary mirrors. I made aluminum tube end rings and mounting rings that attach to the dovetail to mount up to the LXD75. The focuser is a motorized JMI mini-RCF (home-brew, computer controlled). It's maximum resolving power is 1.07". This image is from the observatory monitoring web-cam. You can see my modified Meade DSI-II Pro camera in the focuser.

Notes pertaining to the construction of the carbon fiber tube are here.

STELLARVIEW AT1010
This is an 80mm f/6 (480mm focal length) achromatic refractor of quite decent quality. It's maximum resolving power is 1.45".

MEADE 2080 LX3
I purchased my 8" SCT new in 1983.
This is an 8" f10 scope and has a focal length of about 2000mm. The telescope included the optional "Multi-Coated Silvered Optics Group" and had on an equatorial fork mount.
It's maximum resolving power is 0.57".
The original fork mount and tripod was ('06) replaced with the LXD75 below.
